A schedule blocks your distracting apps automatically, so you don’t have to remember to start each session. Here’s how to set up your first one.
1. Give Ember permission
Ember uses Apple’s Screen Time technology to block apps. The first time you set up, iOS asks you to allow it. Everything stays on your device, and you can revoke access any time in Settings.
2. Choose what to block
Tap to choose your apps, categories and websites. Apple shows the picker, so start with the two or three that pull you away most. You can always add more later.
3. Create a schedule
- Open the Schedule tab and tap the plus button.
- Name it, for example Work or Study.
- Pick the days and the hours. Overnight schedules work too, like 10 PM to 6 AM.
- Choose the apps this schedule should block.
Ember tip: a Sleep schedule that starts an hour before bed is a gentle place to begin.
4. Let it run
Once a schedule is on, your shield applies and clears on time, even if you never open the app. When you want extra focus, use Start focus on the Home tab for a one-off session.
5. Check in on Insights
Insights shows your weekly focus chart, your streak and your recent sessions. If a schedule feels too strict or too loose, adjust it and try again next week.
